The movie industry has decided to train 'em young, teaming up with Boy Scouts in Los Angeles to introduce a patch for learning about the evils of stealing movies and music.

This would make an awesome April Fools joke but, unbelievably, it's true. The Motion Picture Association of America knows it's in a battle for the hearts and minds of the masses, but even it must release this isn't going to work. Who comes up with this crap? Do they ever stop to think how it looks to everyone else? The MPAA already gets plenty of bad press for suing old ladies and little kids for downloading files. All this does is make the movie moguls look like even bigger fascists, brain-washing our children. I wonder if the kids get extra merit points for dobbing in their parents? Making analogies to the Hitler Youth is as easy as shooting fish in a barrel and I'm amazed the Boy Scouts are foolish enough to be associated with such a scheme. According to the LA Times, "Officials at the Scouts' Los Angeles Area Council said they approached the MPAA with the idea nine months ago, emphasizing that the entertainment industry lobbying group did not make financial donations to secure the badge program".

Not surprisingly, training for your copyright patch doesn't include learning about your rights as a consumer, such as fair use clauses. It only teaches you about the evils of piracy and how to run software like Parent File Scan to find copyrighted materials on a PC. As if it wasn't dangerous enough in the playground for kids daggy enough to wear a woggle in public, now they also face being beaten up for being a snitch.
