Putting an AX to Mobile Comms
Apple recently announced the release of an updated Aiport Express. This is a small wireless access point, running 802.11n, that also acts as a USB print server and includes a speaker jack so you can wirelessly stream music from your iTunes library around your house. In short, it's a nice piece of kit for home users.
That said, if you travel regularly and avail yourself of hotel room Internet access then the Airport Express, or AX, should be a device you consider for your mobile kit. I've often used an AX to share the Ethernet connection in the room over WiFi to my MacBook Pro, a smartphone and other WiFi enabled devices. If you're traveling with colleagues then, as long as you get adjacent rooms, you can share a single in-room Internet connection and create a mobile office WLAN.
For some time, I used the previous version of the AX in my home office and it never missed a beat. It takes up the space of a single power outlet and the entire rig fits in one hand. I used to take mine whenever I traveled and just not having to be stuck on the tiny desk in the hotel room and being able to create a WLAN for sharing documents and a portable printer meant that I got my money's worth on the first time I used it on the road.
I you're a frequent traveler then you could do worse than considering the AX for your mobile kit.
